At the beginning of the year they're on us about recruiting and fundraising, constantly giving us passive aggressive reminders about how much of a difference this fundraiser makes for the Council. Lastly, I really feel like this is the one area where our Council takes advantage of our Pack. I'm honestly considering not even bringing up the subject with our Tiger parents next year and letting the older scouts do the fundraiser. There's nothing that makes me put my tail between my legs faster (as a leader) than that awkward point in the September Round-up where we go from "Welcome new Tiger families!" to "Okay, now you need to sell this stuff". Secondly, the timing of the fundraiser is terrible. Taking a look at the price point for something similar (Girl Scout Cookies), I know the volume required is much higher, but I can't help but think those things must sell themselves at a quarter of the entry price as our popcorn. That's not really a healthy interaction, and there's only so many years you can hit up your family for the majority of the sales. I almost feel like most people make a purchase out of guilt because they already approached the scout and don't want to disappoint him. I honestly feel bad for our boys when they have these interactions with 'customers', since it so quickly goes from positive to a reluctant sale. I understand that only a fraction of that money is for the product and that most of the money goes towards scouting, but the sticker shock is a hurdle EVERY year. As I'm transitioning into my role as CC I'm going to be taking a hard look at finding an alternative.įirst, the pricing is extremely difficult to get past. We've been in two Packs now, both of whom sold a TON of popcorn and used this as either their only or their primary fundraiser.
